About me

Fernando Mainer
He was born in Madrid in 1971, where he began his musical studies, specifically with the classical guitar. A few years later he moved to Zaragoza, where his addiction to the electric bass led him to get in touch with local rock bands like Diez con Cinco or the Professional Conservatory and to specialize in classical double bass. It is this duality and versatility in both instruments that gives him the opportunity to combine the rock group Tako with the Symphonic Band of Aragon, or the Pedro Gan Big Band and the Symphonic Orchestra of the University of Zaragoza.
His musical restlessness led him to become interested in the Berklee College of Music and, after being awarded a scholarship by the same university, he went to Boston where he graduated with honors two and a half years later in both specialties, electric bass and double bass. There he worked with several American groups while making several recordings with local artists such as Matt Chase Group, Gregg Brennan, Lee Wilson, Victoria Davitt Band or Chica Mori.
Once back in Spain, he moved to Madrid, where he joined the heavy metal band Ankhara and some jazz-fusion bands, while recording and performing live with artists such as guitarist Jorge Salán, Tako, Ars Amandi, Poncho K, Piruchi Apo, Lantana, The Low Lash, Smooth Lau, Óscar Losada, Krisenka Finley, Fernando Girón, Lagarto Amarillo, Susan Santos...
He has also worked in several musicals, such as Peter Pan, Annie, or the most recent Shrek.
In the teaching field, he has taught bass and double bass at the Instituto de Música y Tecnología de Madrid (I.M.T.), at The Artist Factory (T.A.F.), and is committed to various music education programs (such as the “IMPROSOUNDS” project or “The Real Rock Experience” in Mexico) and has conducted clinics both solo and accompanying, which have included artists of the stature of Mike Stern. Soon he will embark on a series of didactic clinics about the history of the bass, its protagonists, instruments, contexts, songs...
He has collaborated with monthly articles for the magazine “Bajista” during its publication. and teaches bass and double bass both “online” and in person whenever the schedule allows it.
In recent years he has been accompanying Jeff Scott Soto (JSS, Journey, Talisman) on his World Tour, and the Spanish tours with TAKO and especially the Spanish MAGO DE OZ, including two gold albums, numerous national and international tours and appears in specialized publications as one of the best Spanish bassists of recent times.
Among the brands that have counted on him as an artist are Yamaha, Mayones, Jimy picks and Aurora strings. He is currently a Sandberg bass artist and EBS and Darkglass amplification and effects.
